We are building a revolution of compassion. By survivors, for everyone.

The Believe Me Community

“I remember the first summit we [survivors of image-based sexual abuse] had. Having everyone in the room. We didn’t know each other. We sat around the table and shared our stories. It was the first time that I didn’t feel alone. People deleting all their social media. Things I thought were only specific to me. All of us crying. The sense of community. It’s healing. It’s part of our journey. Things get easier with the more support you feel.’ - Christina, Counselor, Survivor and Advocate

Increasingly, our digital lives intertwine with our offline lives as we find jobs, engage with peers and find intimate partners and friends. At the same time, the very technology that enables these advancements is being used to facilitate online sexual violence. Sextortion, deepfake abuse, video voyeurism are examples of image-based sexual abuse and each define a specific form of tech-facilitated sexual violence.

We know that 1 in 7 people are victims of sextortion, with 93% of cases being reported by adult men. Women are 28 more times likely to be be violated by image-based sexual violence and 99% of deepfake abuse harms women. LGBTQ+ individuals are 4x more likely to experience this abuse.

Survivors within and beyond The Believe Me Project are already building a movement to end image-based sexual abuse. This includes podcasts, leading national campaigns, conducting groundbreaking research, leading in legal advocacy and protections and creating technology solutions. The Believe Me Project is born from those innovative and scalable solutions.
